I took a long time to figure out this purchase. I did a boatload of research and read a lot of blogs to come up with this purchase. For my needs, this set of legs was the best balance of weight, load capacity, and cost.
I have a six week long photo trip planned for the second quarter of 2012. I wanted to graduate from my Slik CF714 which served me honorably but was getting a bit too large for convenient handling. This Gitzo was perfectly sized for my needs.
Although extremely hard to explain without a photo, the only thing I would encourage potential buyers to think about when considering this set of legs is the unique way Gitzo locks the angle of the legs. It is a spring loaded system which required two hands to operate/adjust rather than the one handed need for the 4-5 other tripod legs I own.
