May Friday the 13th

Just decided to blog today. No specific reason and definitely not because it is Friday the 13th today. I spent a total or roughly 8 hours over the last two night working on a black and white image of a canal in Venice, Italy. The final destination for my efforts would have been a 13x19 print on Velvet Fine Art paper by Epson. Boy was I looking forward to seeing that print in the uber early hours of the morning. After five attempts with two different sized papers (same paper type though) and rifling through all the different printer settings, I set got prints with a blue/green tint in the dark blacks. I can't figure out why this is happening to me. On a side note, yes, I blew through some paper, but the upside is, I'm using the ink. No, I'd rather not waste ink but those ink cartridges are over two years old. I'm glad to keep the pipes moving on those bad boys.

I'm required to do more research now. I wonder if the bad prints came out that way because I used a less than traditional way to monochrome the image. At least my color prints are coming better than expected. I think I know what I'll be doing tonight.

On a different note, David DuChemin, I hope you experience a faster than humanly possible recovery. You have been an inspiration and I love your writings on all matters related to photography.

On yet another different note, I've been learning how to create websites. The Dreamweaver CS3 book by David Sawyer McFarland I bought when I was still in Santa Ana is finally getting some playtime. Adobe products are dayam powerful. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that Photoshop is probably more powerful than Microsoft Excel. And I be knowing my Excel. Also, at the time of this writing, the Dreamweaver book, used, can be had for very affordable $1.06 + shipping charges (ripoff city here). Keep in mind the latest version of Dreamweaver is now up to 5.5. For me, it is definitely good enough for what I need to do.
