The contrast between the dull colored hidden in the shadow right side of the canal versus the colorful, in the sun, side of the canal struck a chord in me. Almost looks a bit fake if you ask me. I think the building to the right was either abandoned or marked unlivable and slated for future renovations. That's just a guess though. Pause for a moment here. People actually live in this environment. How cool is that?
Anyhow, the contrast in the photo only happened after a ton of post in my digital darkroom full of tools. I would have never guessed that on this particular day of random I would be attached to two photos. I had the lowest of expectations on this date; carrying only the bare minimum of gear (a 50mm lens, my 5D Mark I, a bendy tripod, and a small camera bag - no full sized tripod) in reverence to my traveling partner. I was only going to take snap shots with the aperture wide open but instead I got this wall worthy photo.
I thought my Vision of Venice was a better photo but I had to include this one as well. Adding a human element makes a photo a bit more real. As I try to revert my memories back to when I shot this photo, I was thinking it was around 2pm. Instead, the EXIF read 4:16:37pm. I guess that makes more sense, considering the dark @ss bridge shadow in the center of the frame.
