I tried to make the most of the shooting conditions for the day. It was cloudy and bordering on sprinkling. Even with the world's largest softbox working, I couldn't get the right shutter speed to expose everything clearly. Luckily, I had the aforementioned Promote with me and used that sucker to manage all my multiple exposures. I am embarrassed to say I programmed the remote incorrectly and managed to mess up all the shutter speed records on the EXIF data. Lessons learned there.
The coolest thing about creating the picture, many many many moons after I shot the exposures, was I was able to conceptualize what I wanted the final to look like after staring at the raw pictures for a few hours (okay not a few concentrated hours, I was working on other pictures at the time as well). Along with some gummy bear and Milky Way sugar inspiration, I saw, in my mind, how I wanted the ocean to look like, I saw how I wanted the rocks to look like, and I knew what importance the driftwood log to play in my photo. I was channeling (after the fact) my inner, very inner, unexplored parts of my inner, Ansel Adams.
