Inspiration is a fickle animal. My photographic eye, granted in its infantile immediacies, has random moments. Again, a fickle animal. Anyhow, after two plus months of squatting on my Florence images, I found something that interest me on this super diffused lighted cloudy day.

This image of Neptune, which guards the Uffize Museum, was a feeble effort to record my last day in Florence. I had seen many images of Neptune and some of those images I saw, I wanted to replicate. However, given my time constraints, I found my efforts better utilized in other areas of Florence. Anyhow, with the lack of people parading around the museum, I was able to fire off a few exposures and call it a morning.

Well, today, I found something within this image. After tone mapping this image from five images and applying some dodging to the statue, I thought there would be an opportunity to go monochrome with this image. In addition to that, I wanted to explore the channel mixer for my monochrome-ing needs. Photoshop CS3 was used for the monochrome conversion. Dodging was performed in Lightroom 2.7

Here are the final channel mixer details:

Output Channel: Gray
Red: -75
Green: +52
Blue: +66
Total: +43
Constant: 5%

Man, going negative on that red really did something to the sky that I really liked. I'm a happy photog today.
